Miami or Miami Beach?

Before we left, we didn’t know a thing about Miami. Miami Beach or Miami City? Above all, we didn’t know the distances between these two places or how to get to them. We even thought we could get to Disney World in Orlando easily…

We chose Miami Beach below 20th Street for our accommodation, and from our point of view, it was the right choice. We didn’t have an apartment like we might have had on the Miami City side, but a hotel room.

To remember: The atmosphere and safety. The ease of getting around. And a great climate.

There are a few food stores, but they’re expensive and not very well-stocked. They’re not supermarkets like Auchan, Carrefour, Leclerc, … As for meals, you’ll have plenty to choose from, but don’t forget that we’re in a very touristy area, so if you’re on a budget, look for food on Washington Avenue, rather than Collins Avenue & Ocean Drive. Remember to use your N26 card for payments.

A must: the link between Miami City and Miami Beach

It’s not at all possible to make this connection on foot.

Although there are buses between Miami Beach and Miami City, they don’t actually run. We were stuck in Miami City for over 2 hours waiting for a bus…
So if you don’t have children and aren’t in a hurry, this is a good solution, as it’s really cheap, at around $3 per person for a round trip.

What we didn’t dare try, however, and where we’ve seen recommendations several times, is the bus from Miami City airport to Miami Beach. If you’ve had the experience, please share it with us.

What to do?

We’re not going to rewrite what you’ll find on specialized blogs, but we can recommend the :

Which we did, with 3 children, 2 of whom are very young (6 months and 2 years):

  • Miami Beach
    • Collins Avenue
  • Miami
    • Downtown : Tester le Metromover
    • Wynwood
    • Miami Design District
  • Key West (improvised day trip with a bus that picked us up and dropped us back at the hotel). However, the excessive price is often a deterrent. If we’d had more time to prepare this day in the Keys, we’d have opted to rent a car and drive down to the various Keys, or even opt for a 2-day, 1-night city trip.
